Dearest family, Today, I just learned that our wonderful Amanuel passed away. What a heartbreak and shock for us all. I am so sorry that Kebret and I only heard this very tragic news now. It was such a pleasure to watch Amanuel grow up and to be a part of the family. He was a joy to be around and Kebret and I were honored to be at his wedding. We ran into him last year in Geneva and we were so happy to see him after many years. There are no words of comfort but just know that we are thinking of you all and that Amanuel will always be held dearly in our memories and hearts. Much love, Jo and Kebret

We are stunned by the untimely, early and sudden passing of our cousin Amanuel Abate. His renowned positivity, infectious goodwill and exemplary fellow feeling are all but a few facets of Emi’s wonderful nature. To his loving parents Captain Abebe Abate and W/O Atsedeweyne Bekele as well as his adoring wife Kristina and precious children Louella and Liya, we extend prayers for strength and resilience. May the Almighty grant you the occasion to grieve like you need to, cushion to weather this sudden blow and ultimately leave you with the cherished memory of this treasured gentleman. We extend these on behalf of the immediate family of Demeke Abate, an uncle who immensely enjoyed abiding mutual love with Emi and reveled in their joie de vivre. The two have left us enduring memories of indelible stories. Emi has now joined his dear departed uncle Demeke and his grandmother Alemitu Abay. Those three shall now be side-by-side smiling down on us. C’est avec une très très grande tristesse que j’ai appris le décès de Manny. Son sourire, sa gentillesse resteront toujours avec moi. Je pense particulièrement à sa plus petite fille, puisque j’étais avec lui à Marseille lorsque son épouse l’a appelé pour lui annoncer la bonne nouvelle. Je me souviens encore de son immense émotion.
