The news that Philippe passed away is a shock to all of us. We will miss him as a brilliant physicist, colleague and exceptional person: Philippe initiated many research ideas and projects and realized them thanks to his ability of lateral thinking and his persistance. Many of us knew him not only from the search for long-lived heavy neutral leptons with the ATLAS inner detector, but from various other projects, in which we always were profiting from his constructive and collaborative spirit and support. J’ai eu la chance de travailler avec Philippe dans le groupe de physique exotique d’ATLAS; il était toujours sympathique, enthousiaste et créatif dans son travail. J’avais appris l’an dernier qu’il était malade mais j’espérais pour le mieux - c’est avec choc que je viens d’apprendre la nouvelle de son départ… Je tenais à exprimer mes plus sincères sympathies à sa famille et ses amis en ce moment très difficile…

It was with great sorrow that I learned about the decease of Philippe. It was an honor and pleasure for me working with Philippe over the years. I have always greatly appreciated his positive attitude and friendly manners which characterized him as a charismatic group leader. My deep and sincere condolences to his family during this difficult time.

We are shocked and saddened by the news that Philippe passed away last Thursday. We knew that Philippe was seriously ill for over a year, but we had strong hopes that he was on the way to recovery. Philippe was one of the leading members of our collaboration. He made important contributions to pushing SHiP’s physics case, to SHiP’s timing detector and was one of the founders of the muon flux measurement. His constructive, but critical, questions were always an inspiration for us to make things better. Words cannot express our sadness that this gifted and promising physicist was so prematurely and unjustly taken away. But our thoughts go mainly to his family. His wife and children will now have to face this enormous gap that he left in their lives. We hope that they can find strength by thinking of the good and profound things Philippe brought to everyone around him. I first knew Philippe as a creative colleague and effective and pleasant leader of our small working group. Over time he became a friend, and it was always great to see him when I visited CERN. It is hard to accept that he is gone. My thoughts are with his family, for whom this great loss is even harder.

J'aurais jamais volu écrire ce message. Philippe était un collègue super-brillant, super sympa, créatif, avec une intelligence rare et originale. Et un très bon ami, d'une grande humanité. J'ai malheureusement jamais connu sa famille, mais il en parlait très souvent, je vous envoie une pensée très forte.

Quel choc après l'espoir ! Adieu Philippe. Tu nous quittes. L'expérience MoEDAL perd un grand artisan dans les travaux de recherche dédiés à la détection des monopoles magnétiques. Nous garderons de toi un profond souvenir, impérissable, pour ton engagement et ta motivation pour la Physique.
