Gordon imbued in me my life long love of art and art history; he elevated my conscious appreciation of beautiful women (who flocked to his art classes thus elevating his male student's appreciation of art); and he brought an unmatched level of dignity to the sport of skiing by wearing a coat and tie. He was eminently fair and I will always remember his smile and hearty laughter. RIP. Gordon. Nicholas C. Besobrasov

Gordon remains inspirational in his approach to life and to others. I recently still sang with Gordon over the Internet and I was very impressed by the whole event. Gordon influenced me and my five children who all know well the many drinking and other such songs he taught me at Aiglon in the 1970's. I will remember him fondly and my children will remember him also through the spirit that he helped create in my family.

Gordon was an unforgettable character. Although we were both HMS Belfast Association shipmates he was onboard during an earlier commission, and we did not meet up until 4 years ago on a return visit to Australia. My wife and I travelled around with him there and heard about his devotion to his son Sebastian and their travels together to South Africa We kept in touch on our return, and met onboard our old ship every year, his last visit being in April 2008 when he stood on the Focs'le with other shipmates for a group photograph. Sadly this was the last occasion, but memories of him will remain. Our thoughts go to Maria and Sebastian at this sad time. fellowship and friendship will remain

My Dear Gordon - When I was a teenaged brat you made the effort to find out who I was and what made me tick. This small kindness meant that you became not only my friend, but a great friend to the whole family. You also had a profound and lasting influence on the adult I became. For these and many, many other things I will always remember you. I will always mentally seek the approval in your twinkling eyes and your infectious laugh. In short, I will miss you! No more sneaky-beakies, Mr Dyke! My warmest thoughts are with Maria, Gregory and Sebba. All love to you all x

Gordon Dyke was a man who loved life and managed to convey that in everything he did. I don't think he would mind if I shared a few memories! He was a bon-vivant. Once, when I told him I wasn't particularly fond of Picasso, he told me it was because I was too Catholic! On an expedition to Paris, we were left for a couple of hours to roam where we wished as long as we stayed in a group. We decided to discover Pigalle. I was focusing my lens on a particularly interesting group of women, when who should appear in my camera lens but Mr. Dyke! On another trip to Ravenna, he took the senior art history class to a restaurant in Courmayeur which still remains in my mind as one of the most fun of my life! There was no fixed menu. Dishes came sailing out of the kitchen, in an endless procession of delights and at the end we were served a hot cofee liqueur in a wooden container with many spouts. The object of the game was to manage to sip the liqueur from one of the spouts without getting powdered sugar all over one's face! His spirit has and will always put a smile on my face! The world will never be the same! Gordon and I shared a love of the mountains which ment we got to spend some time together. Not only did he teach me about the mountains but he was a fantastic companion, and friend to me and my family. I wish his family all the best at this time. Joe Pershall

Gordon was a wonderful man who taught me even more outside the class room than in. His humor and the light in his eyes on the mountain, in the valley, in the class room and around the campus will be missed by all who knew him.
