We were very sad to hear that Mr Karel Dutilh passed away so unexpected. He was a very great help for a lot of people also for us dutch citizens living around Izmir and their families. A very sympathetic personality. Our condolences to his wife and family and a lot of strength for the future with this loss. Manuela and Orhan Özbas Kusadasi

Is is with very great sadness and disbelief that I learned today of the passing away of Karel Dutilh. I knew Karel during my five years' posting in Ankara and we became good friends during that time. I very much appreciated his professionalism and his great knowledge of consular affairs. After my retirement from the foreign service we continued our friendship and had regular contacts by mail. I will remember him in my prayers. I wish Alicia and the children great strength to carry the loss of het husband. My deep condolences also for his lovely wife Alicia and their children. Hans de Bruijn Montpellier/France

Very sad to hear that our Honorary Consul in Izmir, Karel Dutilh, passed away last week in the south of France. He was a great and much appreciated colleague, with an excellent knowledge and experience of Izmir, with whom we worked very closely for the success of NLTR400, the celebration of 400 years of diplomatic relations between Turkey and the Netherlands. I have vivid memories of our working visits to Izmir in the good care of Karel, as with the performance of the Nationaal Ballet last summer. He was furthermore living history, as one of the last descendants of the Dutch Levantine family of the Dutilhs who came to the Ottoman Empire in the 18th century. My condolences to his wife Alice and his family.
