I am really sad, I cannot believe. I have been very fortunate to have known Julien. I express my sincere, heartfelt condolences to Julien's family.

I am really shocked by the very sad news, and even if nothing will bring back our friend and colleague Julien, I would like to express all my support to both his family and his colleagues in EPFL. This is a huge loss both for personal and for scientific community.

I cannot believe seeing this sad sad news. Julien is a brilliant researcher and so energetic. We discussed possible collaboration and it is so sad that we haven't even begun... My most sincere condolence to his family.

When I heard the news of Julien’s passing, I was very shocked and saddened and could not believe this. I had been in touch with Julien only a few days before and I was planning to visit him in the summer. He was a good friend, an excellent scientist, and full of energy and passion about his work. It is indeed unfair and deeply saddening to see such a promising young scientist leave us at such a young age. I would like to express my sincerest condolences to Julien's family and friends. We will all surely continue to miss him.

Nous nous sommes rencontrés à une conférence il y a de nombreuses années et il ne nous a pas fallu longtemps pour établir une relation de confiance à la fois au niveau personnel et professionnel. Encore il y a quelques mois, a EuCAP 2014, j’avais eu beaucoup de plaisir à échanger avec toi. Nous avons fait un bout de chemin ensemble, eu l’occasion de collaborer avec succès, nos chemin se séparent à présent mais tu resteras à jamais dans ma mémoire comme quelqu’un que j’ai aimé rencontrer sur mon chemin. Tu me manqueras et je ne suis malheureusement pas le seul à être très triste en ce jour. Mes pensées vont maintenant à ta famille et à tous ceux qui étaient proche de toi.

He was such a pleasure to meet at conferences, and I have many happy memories of our discussions and ongoing correspondence. He will be sorely missed.

Je me souviens de discussions passionnées avec lui, entre autres, sur les réseaux réflecteurs. Je suis ingénieur antennes à Thales Alenia Space, et je connais Julien depuis près de 10 ans. Nous nous sommes rencontrés à l’occasion d’une conférence, et nous avons maintenu un lien très étroit, motivé par des aspects scientifiques, et surtout enrichi par une amitié réelle. Julien était très brillant, son esprit pétillait. Il avait à la fois une intuition remarquable qui lui permettait de déceler des pistes d’innovation, une rigueur scientifique dans l’énoncé des problèmes, le gout pour les réalisations pratiques et l’intérêt pour les applications. J’avais été membre de son jury de thèse. C’était un très bon souvenir pour moi. J’ai relu mon rapport de thèse, il était élogieux. J’avais été marqué à cette époque de la maturité scientifique de ce jeune docteur. Nous avons continué par la suite à collaborer, lorsque Julien était allé en Espagne au CTTC, et lorsqu’il était revenu à Lausanne. Julien était une étoile montante dans notre communauté scientifique. Il méritait sa réussite. Je suis bouleversé aujourd’hui à l’idée que Julien nous ait quitté. Car c’est bien sur mon ami que je regrette. Julien était attachant. Nous nous rencontrions de façon épisodique, souvent à l’occasion d’une conférence ou d’un projet, et avions toujours du plaisir à diner ensemble, d’échanger sur nos projets personnels, socialiser, de faire le point. Je m’adresse surtout à ses proches, à sa famille. Pour qu’ils sachent que Julien était très apprécié dans le cadre professionnel. J’ai eu l’occasion d’échanger avec le père de Julien il y a plusieurs années, à l’occasion d’un problème de santé de Julien. Je partage sa douleur, ainsi que celle de tous ses proches. Ces quelques mots sont bien peu pour exprimer toute ma tristesse.

Salut ptit gars, tu vas me manquer.
