Merci. David

In Memory of Margie Béguin-Nuveen We have known Margie for over 30 years, when we met her as I started to work for the World Council of Churches in August 1978. Within a year she became an assistant to me in the Personnel Office. Her warm personality and love of people brought an extra dimension into our work. She was made responsible for the welcome and establishment of new staff as they came from many lands. At that time we had nearly 350 staff from more than 50 nations, so a warm accepting and practical person to help in settling in to a foreign environment was essential and provided by Margie. Her love and acceptance of people was great wherever they came from and her willingness to devote her time, often outside of office hours to help people was renowned. We visited many apartments together and she carefully compiled many lists to check out situations. We shall always remember her many lists, both professionally and privately. Margie was a loving and very generous person and she supported a wide range of causes and people with her regular donations of time and money. With Leona she was very faithful to her Welcome Group on Wednesdays held in the then Placette, later Manor, restaurant where many strangers to Geneva were welcomed for who they were and provided with lots of information and friendship. Music played an important part of her life from her membership of the Emmanuel Church choir to her Jazz group and she was always interested in new ventures. She also participated actively in the Cursillo movement and participated in weekend retreats and was always willing to share her experiences of faith with others. She had an active mind and eventually decided to finish her formal studies by graduating from Smith College later in her life. Many people have benefitted from her generosity at her Chalet in Verbier and my family remember her with gratitude for the times we have been privileged to spend there with and without her family. Margie was always active and lived her live to the full for others and shared whatever she could whenever it was appropriate. She will always be remembered by my family as a warm, active and loving person who shared herself unstintingly with others for their good. She will be missed but I am sure will have been welcomed by her Lord as having been faithful in all things and even now in heaven, she may well be organizing something or keeping a list …… Dorothy and Trevor Davies
